The introduction of YouTube, the GoPro and consumer DSLR cameras have brought about thousands of new fly fishing videos and small-scale film projects over the past ten years. And while this large amount of fishingrelated content can be great for the promotion of the sport and for the fishing industry in general, the reality is that professional equipment does not automatically equal professional content and quality. Which is why highquality, full-length, large scale professional film productions are welcomed and supported by so many anglers.

Following the success of Drift, Rise, Connect, and Waypoints comes Providence – the fifth large-scale movie project from Confluence Films. Filming for this new project took place in the fall of 2015 on Providence Atoll in the Seychelles. Confluence’s Jim Klug, Chris Patterson and Colin Witherill, Yellow Dog’s Camille Egdorf, and FlyCastaway’s Gerhard Laubscher and Tim Babich joined forces to create the new movie. This was FlyCastaway’s first trip back to the atoll since the waters were closed in 2009 to all fishermen and boat access due to the threats and activities of pirates operating out of Somalia. The Confluence team chased species including giant trevally, bluefin trevally, bumphead parrotfish, bonefish, Indo-Pacific permit, triggerfish, milkfish and more. Title sponsors of the new film include Simms Fishing Products, Costa Del Mar, Hatch Reels, Yeti Coolers and Yellow Dog Flyfishing Adventures.

Providence is aimed at showing all viewers — from hardcore, 300-day-a-year anglers to people who’ve never picked up a fly rod — that fly fishing is a much deeper, more interesting and a more fulfilling sport than they’ve been led to believe by mainstream media. Providence captures the beauty, adventure and excitement of saltwater fishing – on location – with the best shooters in the business using the highest quality techniques and HD digital equipment. As with previous Confluence projects, the difference in the finished product is truly in the details. The two partners in Confluence Films (Chris Patterson and Jim Klug) have close to 50 years of combined experience in their respective roles for Providence: writing, directing, filming, editing, producing, organizing travel and arranging logistics. They have each run their own successful businesses and know the importance of details in putting together a great final product. Providence is an example of their commitment to travel even farther off the grid and find the most remote places, the most exotic species and the most interesting people. Combine these element with an incredibly high production component and Providence promises to be one of the best fly fishing movies ever made.

The Location
Providence was filmed in the Seychelles, on the remote Providence Atoll. Providence has always been legendary for its amazing numbers of Giant Trevally, bonefish, triggerfish and bumphead parrotfish. Having been closed for six long years due to piracy issues, the Atoll was once again opened on a very limited basis for four weeks in the fall of 2015. This fishery is as healthy, untouched, productive and amazing as anything found anywhere in the entire word of saltwater flats fishing.

Donations to Grassroots Conservation Groups
In order to maximize the number of simultaneous showings on October 15, Confluence Films will be partnering with a number of different retailers, fishing clubs, conservation groups and other entities throughout the country. These independent promoters will handle the marketing and organization for each screening event, with a large percentage of the event profits being donated back to their organization or a designated fisheries-based conservation project. With plans to offer these fundraisers in conjunction with major conservation entities and fishing groups throughout the country, we see this as great a way to introduce wellpromoted, well-attended showings in dozens of venues, major metropolitan areas and key fishing markets throughout the U.S. Through these offerings with past film projects and screening events, Confluence has helped raise more than $300,000.00 for fisheries conservation since 2008.

Availability of “Providence” on DVD
