Kinetics Dance Company will open the new season with “Worlds Within,” on Saturday evening, November 12th at the Baltimore Museum of Art’s Meyerhoff Auditorium.

An evening of modern dance, the concert will feature four premiers and three pieces of returning reportory.  Crafted with a strong sense of place, each piece on the program will reveal a separate world.  Viewers, like visitors, are invited to watch from within as each world unfolds.

Guest Choreographer Jaya Mathur and Artistic Director Lauren Snyder present a collaborative new work on the full Company layering Bharat Natyam Classical Indian Dance with modern dance.  Boldly elegant, the movement alternatively highlights and deconstructs the nuanced sculptural  elements of Bharat Natyam.

Other new works will include Mind Full, by Hip Hop choreographer CJ Cunningham.  A fragmented exploration of imperfections and extreme personality traits with a scattered sense of purpose, the piece delves into what it is to be mindful. Franki Graham and Jeanna Riscigno return to the KDC stage with a new duet, Symbiosis, offering a glimpse into unseen interdependence and a spot to settle deeply among intertwined and ancient partnerships.   Also highlighted on the program the cast of Kinetics’ Apprentice Company, the highest-level student company within the School of Contemporary Dance, premiers a piece by choreographer and professional company dancer Erin Gum.

Returning repertory will include Lauren Snyder’s GLASS, a smoothly rippling duet examining surface and reflection using mylar and mirrored sets, Meagan Singleton’s Immersion, a dark and desparate portrayal of visceral fear, and Erin Gum’s Colombus, a mesmerizing and otherworldly sextet featuring the angular movement of masked beings.

Advance rates are available through 12pm on November 12th.  Tickets are also available for purchase at Kinetics Dance Theatre.  Audiences should note that only payments by cash or check can be accepted at the door.

Thirty-two years in existence, Kinetics Dance Theatre is a non-profit organization devoted to the development of contemporary dance as a vital art form within the community through performance, education, and outreach.  KDT houses Kinetics Dance Company, Howard County’s only professional modern dance company, Kinetics School of Contemporary Dance, offering classes in dance technique and theory to students of all ages and levels, and four student companies open to youth who desire more opportunities for dance performance and outreach.

Kinetics Dance Theatre is sponsored in part by the Howard County Arts Council through a grant from the Howard County Government, the Community Foundation of Howard County, Maryland State Arts Council (on the web at msac.org), and the National Endowment for the Arts.
