The Weston High Theater Company opens its 2012-2013 season with Shakespeare’s controversial comedy The Merchant of Venice in the Weston High Auditorium on November 15 through 18. With dark humor and iconic characters like money-lender and outcast Shylock, wealthy and crafty Portia, and generous but hate-filled Antonio, The Merchant of Venice confronts issues of discrimination and exclusion based on religion, race, class, gender and sexual orientation. As in real life, the issues sometimes prove more than the characters can handle.

Two different casts bring the play to life for alternate performances on November 15, 16 and 17 at 7:30 p.m. and November 18 at 3:00 pm. Reserved seating tickets are $5 for students and senior citizens and $10 for the general public. Opening night and Sunday matinee is free for all Weston students. Call 781 786-5980 for further details. Tickets are available at the school box office and at ticketriver.com.

“All that glisters is not gold,” but this season opener promises to shine.

On-Line Sales have ended. Tickets are still available at the box office for the remaining performance Sunday at 3.
