Why I'm fighting Multiple Sclerosis In 2009 My Dearest Aunt and Godmother Bernadette died after a long and hard struggle from an early age with Multiple Sclerosis. Her strength and courage will always stay with me . As some of you know, when someone close to us dies they are never forgotten, even through time, and since her passing 4 years ago I want to do something beneficial for the MS Society whilst making Bernadette live on in the memory of others. Recently I came across the " Climb to the Top" Event ran by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society of New England , were the participants would climb the steps of the John Hancock building (March1,2014 at 9 am). I then with help from Family and Friends formed the team "The Irish Steppers." I was really excited about raising Money for this wonderful charity, but I felt it still wasn't enough. With help from the members of the Team , Family & Friends we have organized a fabulous event on Sunday Feb 16th from 12 -4pm "Mad Hatters Tea Party" this fundraiser Lunch will take place in Florian hall, Dorchester. It will be a great family day out for all to enjoy . At the Event there will be lunch, tea, coffee, refreshments and an array of delicious pastries/deserts . The theme is Alice in Wonderlands Mad-hatter Tea Party . Mrs Universe will be in attendance with her crown . We have been donated fabulous spot prizes and gifts for a raffle . We have had a wonderful response so far from the Irish American community but still need so much more support, if you cannot attend our wonderful event , A donation can be made by check to made out to NMSS and posted to: National MS Society, GNE Attn: Climb to the Top P.O. Box 845945 Boston, MA 02284-5945 (Please write it's for The Irish Steppers) Or for tickets call 6177747791 or e-mail: Also we have a Facebook page :Nmss Boston : Mad Hatters Tea Party Tickets or a donation will be greatly appreciated at the door on the day of Event . Why We Fight MS Multiple sclerosis interrupts the flow of information from the brain to the body and can stop people from moving forward in their lives. Every hour in the United States, someone is newly diagnosed with MS, an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system. Symptoms range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis. The progress, severity, and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted, but advances in research and treatment are moving us closer to a world free of MS. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, with more than twice as many women as men contracting the disease. Even teenagers and young children can be diagnosed with MS, which affects more than 400,000 people in the U.S., and 2.5 million worldwide. Why I Climb I've registered for Climb to the Top because I want to do something for the people who have been diagnosed - and because I want to do everything to prevent more people from having to live with this disease. Today, there is no cure for multiple sclerosis, and with a diagnosis occurring most frequently between the ages of 20 and 50, many individuals face a lifetime filled with unpredictability. Why You Should Sponsor Me The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Greater New England Chapter will use funds collected from Climb to the Top to support research to find a cure, and also provide education, support, and advocacy that address the needs of people living with MS today. Because we choose to climb for those who sometimes can't, because we choose to donate, we are getting closer to the hour when no one will have to hear the words, "You have MS."
