Event Details

4th Annual Houston Black Film Festival returns to the nostalgia and elegance of black films. The Houston BFF will present a host of entertainment industry workshops that will teach or enhance your film-making, acting, directing career by providing you with the tools and networking opportunities that will elevate your industry goals and increase your opportunities.  We are honoring the illustrious actress,  Jurnee Smollett-Bell. (Underground, Great Debaters).  The fest presenter is the lovely, Lisa Arrindell, (The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, Sin-Seer, Tyler Perry's, 'Madea's Family Reunion')  moderator, is none other than the beautiful and funny Comedian Coco Brown, ('Single Ladies Club', Tyler Perry's 'For Better or Worse')The festival also has a segment for authors to pitch their novels to producers for consideration of a film adaptation of their books.  Script to Screen workshop held by Filmmaker Mark Harris. Harris will discuss how he implemented his concept, depicted complex characters and other dynamics, and structure,  that landed his work on TVOne, BET, Netfilix, in theaters as an Theatrical release as an Indie Filmmaker.  He will also discuss the elements of screenwriting. You’ll learn to create a “trigger” incident for your story, that leads your main character into a powerful dilemma. Director Christopher Nolen II (BET, TVOne) will also be on hand for a Directors workshop. Calming the Casting Chaos panel will also host other well-know industry experts such as Casting Director, Natasha Ward, Producers Panel will include Dawn Carter, Donlyn Productions formerly of Fox Pictures, (Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Date Movie, First Daughter and others.) Arthur Muhammad, (Carter High) with Vivica Fox, Charles Dutton, David Banner, Pooch Hall)Stay tuned as we announce additional attendees, honorees, and more festival updates.
