About your host:

Andrew McConathy Drunken Hearts
Guitar-playing front-man and primary songwriter of Drunken Hearts initially thought a worldwide calamity meant the beginning of the end to a career he’s pursued since 2010. Then an angel of mercy from his past emerged, giving him a second chance to make things right in his life and his songs. McConathy’s story of give and take, rise and fall, and hope lost and found gets the personal treatment on Reckless Ways of Living, his latest album.

About the Artists:

Jeremy Garrett of Infamous Stringdusters

Known as an innovative fiddle player, expressive singer and soul-searching songwriter in the Grammy Award-winning band, the Infamous Stringdusters, who broke onto the national scene in 2007, scooping up 3 IBMA awards including Album and Song of the Year. Since then, the group has become an international ambassador for progressive bluegrass. When not touring with the Duster, Jeremy turns his attention to his solo show, wowing fans by using electronic effects to layer and loop multiple instruments and vocals. Jeremy has a more intimate side as a songwriter, and has a broad catalog of originally crafted songs. He’s contributed several songs to the Stringdusters and has collaborated with Darrell Scott, Oliver Wood, Jon Weisberger and more.

Travis McNamara of Trout Steak Revival

Created during the unprecedented isolation of the pandemic - and recorded solo in a 375 sq. ft carriage house - MOON CALENDAR is the lush and adventurous debut release of this multi-instrumentalist. When eight months of touring with his Telluride-winning band Trout Steak Revival was wiped out overnight, he turned to recording, taking his folk writing into much wider electric and electronic territory. No fewer than 15 instruments show up across its tracks; all played by McNamara himself. Inspired by the sounds of Adrianne Lenker, Bon Iver, The Books, and Denver’s own Nat Tate, he pursued a new way of writing, creating, and self-recording. In a moving pastiche of layered recordings, McNamara speaks directly to and about the people he loves and gives us an intimate window into the life of a Denver experimental songwriter. In fact, monthly songwriting challenges with an online group of local musicians, dubbed ‘Beaver Moon’, was one of the things that helped him digest all the changes to his touring lifestyle after the pandemic struck. In recording this album, he describes nightly walks under the moon, unlocking the puzzle of a new instrument, and tracking and hunting the secret animal hearts of these new songs. As always, McNamara makes generous use of his most dynamic themes; expansiveness and adventure, balanced with isolation and freedom, and of course the perennial search for love.

Bill McKay began his musical journey at the age of six, taking classical piano lessons and singing in a church choir as a boy soprano. In high school, he studied jazz theory and ear training, and sang in the choir and barbershop group, touring in England, Wales, and Amsterdam. Bill began playing rock and roll in bars and clubs at the age of 16 with various bands, including Derek Trucks Band and Leftover Salmon.

Derek Dames Ohl of Flash Mountain Flood

Derek Dames Ohl is like warm butter on hot bread with blustering conduct. As a modern day herald, Derek keeps his roots close with a six string on his back, ping-ponging across the United States sharing songs at every bar or dive that dares. Sounds that eclipse and perfect everything from Country, Blues and honky-tonk.  His pride in keeping the American roots music tradition alive, with punchy guitar playing will surely have every listener on their feet and stomping the floorboards. Derek has been related to artists like John Prine and Guy Clark with his quirky one second, and woeful the next songwriting style.
